Cats have an uncanny ability to convey messages to other cats who have no idea what the other cat has said. The best example of this is when a kitten is playing with another kitten. A kitten will pounce on its playmate and then start licking the other kitten's head! As time goes by, the licking gets more intense.
At first it is just a quick flick of the tongue but then it becomes longer and longer until the licking is almost hissing! The next day the other kitten will carry out this same ritual with another kitten and once again it will become more intense over time! What is happening here? When two kittens play together they are communicating with each other without any words being spoken! All because cats make eye contact all the time during play. They don't shy away from each other as if they were angry or angry at each other or scared either. They just look at each other as if nothing has happened.
This gives them the confidence to lick each others' heads as if nothing was wrong at all!
